There is something to be said when it comes to cheerleaders’ endless positivity and encouragement, both really important qualities to help you persevere and succeed in your job search.
Even when the team is down and out, 20 points behind with 2 minutes to go, you will still see the cheerleaders on the side raring their team on. So, even if you have received a flurry of rejection emails, you need a big healthy dose of cheerleader mentality to give you the motivation to get up and go again.
THAT’S WHERE WE COME IN.
Be Your Own Cheerleader:
When you are on the job hunt, it can feel like it’s you against the world. Without an office or opportunity to be around friends, you might not be getting the praise and encouragement you are used to from peers and colleagues! But, if you don't cheer yourself on, who will?
You are the best person to know what motivates you. Whether it’s kindness in the form of a long bath or some tough love in the form of a talking to in the mirror to spur you on, work out what works for you. Tell yourself how great you are! Write down your favourite things about yourself and what accomplishments you are most proud of. If you ever feel a little low, take a look at your list just to remind yourself how brilliant you are.
Self praise and encouragement is vital.
Be a Cheerleader for Others:
Job hunting can feel very isolating and you can feel disconnected to the working world and your community. But that doesn't mean that you cannot be on the side lines cheering others on. If you like a project a previous colleague is working on or love a new campaign from a small business, share it, like it, shout about it and spread the encouraging love.
Not only will it make you feel good, but the more you share and interact with other people’s work, the more likely it is they will do the same for you. It’s a great way to grow your network and we all know that growing your contacts only opens more doors and more opportunities.
